Marriot Dead Sea

Landscape Concept

When MK Associates (Jordan`s leading landscape Architectural design firm) was asked to design a resort in the Jordan Valley, the challenge was to come up with a unique image and to introduce special recreational, touristic landscape facilities.
Dr. Kamel O. Mahadin took this initiative and did extensive consultation with the client to design the 70,000m sq. the plot of land.

The first step to develop a series of images, therefore, more than fifty landscape watercolor images were drawn and later a detailed landscape model was made to show the client the desired product.

The approach to the hotel entrance is through a meandering route with high canopy date palms with carpools hidden via berming technique and extensive soft landscape details.
The target was to provide maximum use of outdoor spaces with water elements as the project theme is to soften the harsh landscape of the surrounding.

The concept concentrated and evolved around a major swimming pool. Water elements as close a possible to the guest room blocks or easy accessibility and to provide an authentic environment. As soon as you step into the main lobby you have a clear view of the Dead Sea, and once you are on the terrace, the swimming pool touches the horizon of the Dead Sea. The movement pattern from the upper to the middle to lower plateau until you reach the shoreline consists of two curvilinear paths with ramps and gently sloped walkways with steps to provide the comfortable movement with outstanding views.
